New fire safety rules affecting all commercial premises in England and Wales came into force on 1 October 2006. Fire certificates will be abolished and those previously issued will cease to have any legal status.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, approved by parliament in 2005, is the biggest overhaul of fire safety legislation in decades consolidating nearly all existing legislation.
Primarily the changes will affect employers and building owners, but it could be anyone who has some control over premises. The main change to the legislation is that you must carry out a Fire Risk Assessment and act on the findings.
We recognise that many companies may not have the skills or manpower available to carry out a risk assessment, which is why many of our clients employ our trained personnel to carry out a full risk assessment of their premises, as well as advise on improvements that may be needed so that you are able to comply.
